[Max] Bug Reporting / LightMix Issue

Having an issue with LightMix where I often have to turn one of checkboxes off and on for the frame buffer to recognise that I'm on the LightMix element.

This happens when rendering a region, or sometimes just restarting IR.

Hard to explain, but I've got the lightmix element selected in the frame buffer but it doesn't show the results of lightmix until I tinker with something.  As if it defaults back to Beauty if the render is restarted or a region is rendered.

Found an issue with sheen.

Let's say I have a 3D Person sat on a sofa, i just want them to cast shadows ready to comp in a 2D Person.

If the sofa fabric has sheen turned on, then the 3D person has to be visible to reflection/refraction otherwise you don't get any shadow from them.

Still getting displacement issues, same old problem it looks like.  I'd pay a premium to have the old dispalcement back.

Render on the left with displacement, middle shows the mesh, right with no displacement.

Posting this here and on Itoosoft forums - but the rendering difference without and without Forest Pack is night and day.

I'm trying to render a lawn, with the lawn turned off no problems at all.  Turn the lawn on and it takes an age to kick into action, then goes into parsing for ages, then I can't cancel out of it until parsing has finished about 15 minutes later.  Corona 8 (latest official release, no dailies) and latest Forest Pack.

[Max] I need help! / Overrides Completely Unaffected

Is there anyway to have the environment overrides completely unaffected by anything in the frame buffer?  The Tonemap Control just doesn't seem to cut it at all.  And yes I've tried restarting the renders etc etc.

I need to render with the backplate visible (full 360 pano) and I'm also using it for reflections.

The issue is regardless of the tonemap control settings, something on the backplate is affected, even after a restart.

The only way I can get full 1:1 representation of the backplate I see in Photoshop, inside of Corona, is by not touching anything at all in the frame buffer.

I'm aware of LUT issues regardless of tonemap control settings, soI'm avoiding those.  Filmic Highlights/Shadows affects the backplate horribly (saturated pixels everywhere - unless they're both set at 0 or both set at 1).  Adjusting curves affects the backplate, even after restarting the render etc etc.

Is it possible, or is the only solution to render twice and comp back in?  Although this isn't a solution for reflections

Lowering the saturation in VFB appears to affect overall image brightness - is this normal?  You can test it just by having the curves window open while you make the change - the whole histogram shifts to the right when I lower the saturation

[Max] I need help! / Getting a Bitmap Error during IR

I'm getting this error

"Render had to be aborted because a bitmap on disk changed and is being reloaded. Continuing the render could cause crash or undefined behavior. Bitmap name is: XXXX"

Interestingly it's while I'm using IR - but the helpdesk article states "This message is never displayed when using interactive rendering (in such case the rendering will be automatically restarted instead)."

The render doesn't restart though.  Also the texture in question isn't being edited elsewhere, it's just sat on my hard drive

I'm an absolute technical novice when it comes to anything inside the PC Case.

Hi

I've just rendered a scene twice. 

The first one had a HDRI in the Direct Visibility Slot.  The second one was just black in the Direct Visibility slot (HDRI turned off)

The first one took 1 hour and 50 minutes

The second one took 2 hours and 30 minutes

Is this normal?  A 40 minutes increase to render on black?  There were rendered one after the other, so the only thing I can think is a RAM issue as it is a RAM intensive scene?

But I would have expected a speed increase on the black background.

Has anyone successfully achieved the type of material in the examples using the new Physical Material?  If so, some guidance would be appreciated.

I used to have a setup that worked well with the legacy shader, but it was a combo of Diffuse, Translucency, Refraction, Opacity and various falloffs - i.e. massively faked.

Looking for a more Physically Accurate setup to get that lovely varied level/gradient of transparency across the entire curtain.

Seems like a basic question but ...

If I select 500 objects and add a UVW map, it just gives you a huge UVW map across the entire selection.

Is there any way to select multiple objects and add individual UVW maps (all with the same settings) but centred to the individual objects rather than the entire selection

Anyone else having difficulty getting Forest Packs to exclude from Corona Override using the above versions?

The individual items (scatter objects) are excluding fine, but the ForestPack itself won't exclude?  This has only started happening since upgrading to FP7

[Max] I need help! / Adapative Light Solver and Portals

So we know that the Adaptive Light Solver negates the need for portals.

But we also know that the Adaptive Light Solver can do some weird stuff at random times, a lot of the time when using Reflection Overrides.

So if I'm doing an interior with a Reflection Override - I tend to turn Adaptive Light Solver off, just so I don't come back to a finished render full of blocky artifacts.  It's safer.

But if I do that, turn ALS off, should I then revert back to using portals also?

[Max] I need help! / [solved] Resume Render and Denoising

Apologies if this has been asked before but I've just used this feature for the first time today.

Anyway - if I'm doing a render and press 'Stop' it goes through the denoise process, if I then press 'Resume Last Render' will it denoise again when it finishes if I just leave it to reach the specified noise threshold, thus being denoised twice?

Or does it ignore the first denoise?  I've not saved a CXR in between so not resuming from file, just resume last render
