almost never.

always the 3dsmax corona vfb with some editing in the tone mapping (but very simple, most of the time just AgX Lut), and most of the time directly saved to .jpg

Any news or findings from the dev team?

Hey Romullus, thanks for your reply.

I did check the UVW mapping of the wall object and it was set to RWS, although I since realised the plank bitmaps were not set to RWS. Once I did this and figured out the correct UV sizes it has started to look more as expected. Not quite perfect, but getting towards the end goal. As attached screen grab from VFB

Thanks again!

From that benchmark the Mac is almost 3x faster.

I assume you are rendering the same scene, do you get any RAM warnings on your machine?

Regarding the speed from VFB vs PV no idea about that, someone else might have some knowledge to share.

From my point of view, the Agx color management is quite seducing. Nice highlight falloff, colors OK, i like the desaturated aspect as will on high values.

I most of the time use your AgX matrix (thanks) + custom 1D curve made with Lutcalc, and it works quite well.

I also tend to have little photoshop editing at the end, so i like to have my colors right in the render, and i find it very hard to finetune them in the VFB.

So i thought of finding the nice color setups with a lut in Resolve, and then bake them with AgX in one single LUT.

are you using Corona Image Editor?

Thanks for this James, I have checked the scores and my colleagues Mac should only be twice as fast. The issue here is that he seems to get faster renders through Corona VFB than PV whereas I don't. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong?

At least I know from those results you have posted it definitely isn't anything to do with only having 32gb RAM which I suspected.

No worries man, i didn't take your message as critique. I realize that my previous message probably sounded too defensive, but that wasn't my intention at all. I just wanted to explain reasons behind my setup and make it clear that my way of doing it is not the only correct method. If your method works for you better, then it means it si correct for you, but it never hurts to learn alternative workflows and have them in mind for situations where you might struggle with your usual setup.

Regarding tutorials, i don't think that Corona struggles in that regard, there are tons and tons of learning material out there, you just need to be able to distinguish more serious stuff from usual fluff. Most of what's been discussed in this topic has little to do with Corona anyway, but is more broad knowledge of 3ds Max and 3D in general. Learning material about this is widely available in all shapes and forms. Albeit it's not necessary directly connected with Corona, but it shouldn't be hard to translate the concepts between different renderers.

if "avoiding user mistakes" is THE strategy - was anything done about Tone Curve after this thread:
https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=40616.0

an updated tooltip or something?

No

well, there you go.
where is a sensible limit of protecting users from "breaking color management" (the non-existent one?) by adjusting gamma.

anyway..

+1 for Gamma operator, it should be there.
