Hello
I want to change my cpu, but I hesitate between the threadripper pro 3955wx and the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X.
there are not many benchmark tests with the threadripper pro 3955wx
Do you have a suggestion?
Thanks

I would suggest posting this in the hardware section as you might get more answers there.

The 39x5 series is basically 39xx series (Both CPUs are based on the Zen 2 architecture) with loads of PCI-E lanes and a new chipset that allows for some funky motherboards with 7 or 8 PCI-E slots. That and a crap ton of NVMEs and the like.

I'm saying that because unless you explicitly need that much I/O I would perhaps ask you to take a look at the 5950x. It will be faster for rendering (and simulation stuff) than both the 3950x as well as the 3955wx while it should theoretically ~match price bracket of the 3955wx (does depend on stock). Sometimes it should even be quite considerably faster. Compared to buying a prebuilt 3955x system you might actually get a more "gaming" like system for a whole lot less that will be faster for rendering purposes. You can also get a prebuilt with support with a 5950x - I think Puget offers them amongst others. The 3955wx CPU is, to my knowledge at least, an OEM only CPU so that means you can get it if you buy a prebuilt system.

Anyway, in case you DO NOT use 3+ GPUs, lots of NVMEs and SSDs then if I were you I'd try to see if I can get the 5950x. If you DO USE 3+ GPUs, lots of NVMEs and SSDs I'd look at the 3955wx. And if I can't get the 5950x because of low stock I'd then look at the 3950x.

In my opinion 3955x are super great its just that the 5950x can offer more speed if you can get it at a reasonable price (reasonable is the key word) - its the newest architecture after all.

Oh and from my understanding the 3955wx is basically 3950x (<- which I still think is an awesome CPU) with slightly lower clocks that potentially really don't affect anything that much. You are probably in the ~error tolerance zone if you look at the benchmarks for the 3950x - the 3955wx should offer quite similar performance.
