Hi romullus, thanks for good point. I took a note for that. In the future we would like to invest some time to 1D spline scattering features and per-vertex scattering is one of them. Your issue should be resolved with that.

Thank you romullus, that makes it easier to work with. Hitting the update button takes about 8-10 seconds, but at least the wait is confined to pushing that one button. :)

Hi, BTW you should be able to hit that button also from the Lister, to avoid iterating through the individual scatters in the Command panel.

Thanks Mike. I was wondering if corona pattern is more efficient in terms of generation speed and RAM, so it has potential to cover some of the heavy lifting from the likes of scatter. Do they work on different tech when it comes to efficiency and speed? TBH we are quite entrenched in forestpack but scatter is becoming tempting. IS scatter more efficient and faster than forestpack in corona?
Hehe, you have a lot of questions to reply to. :-)

The technology behind scatter and pattern is completely different - implying some use cases are better fit for patterns, some for scatters. We will be addressing this by creating some help article on that topic. Stay tuned! In general, creating patterns means 'repeating' while scattering mostly means 'randomness'. If you need to use multiple grass geometries, you are probably doing it because you want to break the pattern = make it more random. That is why I suggested scatter. But it depends on each case. The help article should shed more light into it.

Yes, pattern is lighter w.r.t. RAM.

As for the comparison to FP (or actually anything), the best approach is to try. User use cases differ really greatly. It is impossible to say that A is always better than B for everybody every time. Moreover it changes over time. Try it and you will see if there are some benefits for you or not. :-)

As for the displacement, it is at least possible to use displacement modifier (for target scatter-on objects) doing displacement on 3ds Max side.

Pls, there's no thread to the topic ""Further improvements to Chaos Scatter"" yet?

Its an amazing addition that can only get better. Here are my early suggestions:
I hope they have plans to add an ANIMATED feature for Vegetation, Humans and Cars.
I hope they throw in some time lapse HDRI s too
...and I'm personally requesting for more colored human posed models in your collection, in both formal and traditional attires. you would be surprise how many African nations are into corona. ;)

There's a lot Chaos Scatter can offer with time but I wish they could implement the above requests as updates way before corona 9.

I like to have the ability to scale independent objects INSIDE the scatter, i have already asked for this and some one from corona just told me to scale the original object, WE don't want to scale the original objects! Please listen to the users, we are the ones using the tool, don't think as coders when asking for user feedback.
We also want as much speed as posible, right now it becomes sluggish on heavy geometry and lots of scattered objects.

Could you please describe in which scenario a dedicated scale control for each model would help? It is always better to describe the problem you are trying to solve, than yelling 'I need this' without telling why. We are always interested in user feedback. Just understand that things take time to design and implement. Resources are limited. We work hard, believe me.

As for the performance issues you experience, could you please provide us scenes that we could use for finding/testing optimizations?

Hello, hope this is the right topic for general questions about Chaos Scatter.

It looks like Chaos Scatter is build “cross-platform” now and it can work with Corona and Vray.

I have a small question about licensing:
-Is it possible to use Chaos Scatter if I only have Vray license active?

Sure, but Chaos Scatter is not officially supported by V-Ray (yet). It might not work properly.
