[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona VFB disapears
« on: Yesterday at 11:54:56 »
The only thing that controls that is the VFB type in Corona system settings and Show VFB in Render Settings.
Have you checked those? Have you tried changing and then setting to the original values?

Hi,

This really depends on many things.
You can simply use one bitmap, plugged to different output/color correction nodes and plugged to environment and/or overrides.
I have found this to be the most functional way.

Hi,

Thanks for bumping this. This has been in our list of reports, but did not have high priority.
Generally hair and fur related things do not have high priority, as, even for this case, there can be many workarounds, e.g. with slicer. Plus ChaosScatter (if applicable) will be more stable and robust.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Distributed Render blur/distortion
« on: 2025-05-14, 11:52:18 »
Hi,

This looks like a clear bug.
Please send the scene over so we can check.

You can as well do this through ticket: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hi,

There should definitely be way to do it through maxscript, but are you having issues deleted it with UI?

For maxscript, I believe you need to create a new array for distribute-on object nodes, which will be empty or just the specified object deleted/missing from it.

First, exterior windows were made simple (thin, no refraction).

There were very far away objects (maybe empty, e.g. "Books 006_002-mesh169") which were simply deleted - I don't think they were used in the scene.
Now main part: the library was lit with lights which had hard time getting out of the "covering" and reaching different parts of the scene. Specifically the round chandeliers - light sources were placed inside refractive glass (better make them simple, too). The floor lamp had similar setup.
Rayswitch was used to make the GI slot of these objects into a simpler materials to be calculated.

This was mostly it.
You can further improve the render times (less noise in given time) by decreasing the Max Sample intensity. Even a value of 6 would give fine results, specifically in the library part.

Hi,

You can find the optimized version of your scene with this link:
Optimized scene

Just extract it and place the .max file at the same directory as original file.

I have 7950x and I don't remember doing any render on it for over an hour. I would say the scene is not optimized (or setup) well. Maybe there is a small part in it which causes the noise level to stay high. But 4-5 hours on a 7950x is too much, even for high resolutions.

Everything looks fine, there was OCIO gamma related fix which we did in Corona 12 Update 2. The checkbox was introduced to keep the scenes rendering as they were created, before Corona 12 Update 2.

For newly created CoronaBitmaps this is done automatically (no such checkbox). The tooltip is self explanatory.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

Sorry for lack and delay of response.

I would say the best way is to use the HEX code directly in CoronaColor, this should give as unmodified version of it as possible.
There can be many layers to this issue, there can be conversions in and out of Photoshop, plus the color management of 3ds Max.
I will have a look at your scene.

User-Facing Improvements
  • Simplified trial obtaining process.

Bugfixes
  • Fixed crash on Max start for old CPUs without AVX support.
  • Fixed a bug where material drag&drop from Cosmos would not work in Max 2025 and newer.
  • Fixed issue where Scan materials imported from Cosmos were blank if the user did not have Scans license.
  • Fixed issue with the slow import of the Scan materials from Cosmos.
  • Fixed issue where Rotate and Select&Place tools would behave erratically during IR.
  • Fixed issue where aspect ratio lock was not working in Corona Bitmap.

Yes, it should be either hidden (per camera or for a view), as lightmix cannot "unsee" a lightmix layer simply by turning it off. Or the workarounds I shared above.

13
If you are using 1 object with 2 different lights/material, then you need to animate this (or animated with 2 different objects), there is no way to do it through lightmix.

14
I got your point.

Not sure how it works in VRay, but please tell me if what you are describing was ever possible in Corona, in some version.
It may become a feature request in the end.

I believe there's a bug:

https://youtu.be/pBMelae7118

To replicate it:

1- Open a scene, create somthing, render and save CXR.
2- the the VFB clear, open the CXR from history and edit it.
3- Draw a region and click render.

The image in the VFB goes away.

In any case, an "open" option under the little disk icon in the regular (not history) VFB would be better in my opinion.

EDIT: 3ds Max 2025.3, Windows 11 latest update AFAIK.

3 - instead of Render, draw a region and do Resume in rendering (play button for history item).
