I noticed some oddness with the rigged characters in the Cinema 4D studio presets, when using the IR, it keeps recalculating geometry. It renders fine in the picture viewer.
At first, I thought it was the default c4d materials, but even with a basic white diffuse corona material, the same thing happens. Makes the IR pretty useless when using one of the characters.
Can anyone recreate this problem?

I often have this happen too. It thought is was problem with C4D materials or if the model has some Xpresso that doesn't seem to jive with Corona.  I tried IR with the Male Clothed Model and also the C4D supplied Carrot and have the same issue as you. And like you I can't figure out what the problem is. I does actually render okay though.

The problem is somewhere in the character group, deleting this makes the IR start as it should. I'm no rigger so I'm not sure what the conflict is. But I'm guessing it's a tag of some sort.

So it turns out that this is probably C4D's fault. The character object keeps updating the data inside itself, even though the data doesn't change. I'll try to come up with an idea to circumvent this somehow, but it will need additional logic in our IR code...
