[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: CXR file overwrite not working?
« on: 2018-01-15, 23:10:10 »
Hey sorry again for the mega late reply.

A quick update, I think you could be right on Corona not overwritting due to low RAM as a new scene I had started managed to overwrite my last CXR save.... Luckily I avoided a total fail as I had a backup!

It still doesn't explain why when just trying the Corona Image Editor it doesn't save over the CXR file when low RAM has no issue.

The renders are not very high res. 4000x3078. Render elements are kept to a minimal beauty, reflection, wire ID, Colour ID (MAT). I removed as many as I could get away with to try and help with the RAM issue.

To be honest I am confident it is low RAM so you're probably right!

If you wouldn't mind, or anyone else just helping with this last issue I'll raise here, my wire and colour ID passes are what I could only describe as noisey/blotchey. Any idea what I am doing wrong that would be causing this? Seems like an odd error! If you can't/won't answer this due to it being a separate issue that is totally understandable and I'll ask again at a later date!

Thanks for all your help so far! :)

Hi guys sorry for the late reply.

Yes I do mean in the system settings.

In the latest version 1.7 (I believe is correct?)

I'm pretty sure it does it regardless of where I save it location wise.

I can certainly do some bug checking once I have completed the image to let you guys know if that will help!

I have noticed however I am getting a new RAM warning, saying that I do not have enough RAM (its saying it needs 37gig) and that I only have 32 available etc. So possibly this could be an issue, however I am not convinced it is since even when I am not rendering and simply just saving the CXR file itself, it will not overwrite the previous files. It gives no error message saying it can not save, it simply locks up for a few seconds (as it did do before when it was working to save the file) and then nothing happens.

Sorry if this is of little help at the moment, when I have some more free time to help aid with the checking I will do so. Is there any other information you could do with right now?

Thanks! :)

[Max] Bug Reporting / CXR file overwrite not working?
« on: 2018-01-10, 00:48:26 »
So to keep this short; in 1.6 when rendering a file due to my own system instability and low RAM i would make sure that the save multiple CXR files were enabled to make sure I had a back up of the frame buffer if needed.

However I've noticed recently with now more RAM installed and better system stability the function of overwriting the saved CXR files is no longer working. It only saves the allocated amount so for example 3 files, and then it appears to stop saving them and doesn't overwrite the older files. Any reason why this could be happening?

It was sounding like great news until I saw the word acquired :(  If render legion had kept a 51% share, leaving them in full control of their own future/development, then it would have been perfect.

Fingers crossed the product will get better as a result of the new ownership, and not the opposite.   I think it's safe to say though that if Corona is to remain cheaper than Vray...(and probably even if it doesn't), then it will never be allowed to become a better, faster, easier to use, and a more feature rich renderer than Vray (which it was on its way to accomplishing)....which makes me wonder, if I don't make the switch to Vray, am I always going to be using Chaos's second best renderer.

I hope it all works out well for Ondra and his team, but it seems risky if they're hoping to remain the masters of Corona's destiny.

I guess try thinking of it like owning two sports teams in a competitive league. You have double the chance of winning and so if Corona does surpass VRAY, they own Corona so they don't loose. If anything they have expanded market share and its in their own interest that Corona does well. It works for Corona I guess in the sense of they will have far greater resources etc. The only thing for concern is that we see price increases...

Apologies if any of these are redundant and to be honest not really VRAY related.

1. When you drag an image into the editor it is automatically a corona bitmap...

2. If 1 is not possible can you at least make it so I can copy and then paste on the Corona Bitmap file path box so I am not having to go manually search for it.

3. Not sure if this was removed before or if it is just not possible but some sort of "bucket" where by you set the noise level and it will just go round and render it, just so I can get a quicker idea of quality... again I am sure this was removed/dismissed before with probably good reason.

4. Perhaps a slightly different material preview to be available. I work on a 4K screen and when enlarging the material preview to see it with any real clarity it really slows everything down. I know its my fault for having a rubbish PC lol but maybe a slightly more friendly material preview to be an option?

I don't agree with the hate comments being sent, however I hope the developers understand that the fear of this is from the love that we have for this bit of incredible software that has been developed and indeed the community it has created. It's just something people do not want to see lost. I'm personally sure it wont be and hopefully this is just like how car manufacturers share technology which in turn helps to lower R&D costs and in the end gives consumers better cars while distinctively different enough to not feel as if you're just buying the same thing but with a different paint job.

I'd personally be far more fear full if Corona was bought out by Autodesk...

I wish everyone involved the best of luck with this and the future for Corona is safe and ever improving! :)

It looks great. There are some giveaways that it is procedually done so I am not sure what the complaints are aimed at...

I saw some comments you do tutorials? Would it possible to give me a link to where these are? Thank-you :)

Looks great!

If you wouldn't mind, could you possibly explain or point towards how you achieve that slightly soft photograph feel to your images?

I've tried on mine recently and I feel like I am failing to grasp it properly!

I don't expect a step by step; even a brief article would be hugely appreciated :)

Off-Topic / Re: Do you work for yourself or a company?
« on: 2015-09-21, 17:02:04 »
Small company in Birmingham, UK.

The same...although I suspect different companies :P

55
This might not be the place but maybe doing something similar to keyshot-zbrush?

I know that's more of a standalone, but I think a standalone corona could be cool for things like. As I say, it may be totally the wrong thing to suggest!

56
Not sure its doing corona a disservice to show that its slower at rendering an awful looking image...

Its pretty much a clickbait video, show that renderer doing a 6000px render which looks realistic which lots of lovely displacement, 8k textures and whatever else and then lets see how quick it is ;)

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Destroyed UI on start up
« on: 2015-08-03, 22:07:45 »
No problem what so ever! :)

I was originally going to use vray (downloaded the trial) but after using Corona I thought there was only one choice tbh ;). Anyway... I've not touched the vray trial since whenever I installed it (must have been months ago) and have been using Corona since 1.0 and with no issues, only since installing 1.2 have I run into this issue. I have tried uninstalling and manually deleting vray where I can and now I have regained most of the UI back however there are a few pop ups at the start which are looking for vray files which no longer exist.

So I've decided I am just going to download max 2016 and go completely fresh as to avoid any of these issues! :P

I would try and be more helpful in my testing for you guys but sadly I am on a tight schedule of trying to update my portfolio at the moment and I don't have the free time to do these tests. However unless by some miracle you debug it before me, I'll keep the 2015 install and try to debug it later.

Don't have an image hosting account so just for the sake of speed here is the copied script log.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Destroyed UI on start up
« on: 2015-08-02, 22:52:24 »
Hey guys,

Just installed (and restarted my computer! ) the 1.2 build. As soon as I start it I get the error:

-- Unknown property: "numItems" in underdefined

which I'm not sure if this affects the UI but I'm now missing nearly all buttons from the UI. Although the process of rendering still works.

I'm running 3DS Max 2015 Student Edition on Windows 8.1 build 9600.

Computer specs are:
Intel 5930k
16GB Ram
2x 980gtx

Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks :)
