Wow these are great! Is there much post processing or are these straight out of the VFB? Also what's your lighting setup like?

Thank you!

Some detail extraction, curves and color corrections in PS. Nothing fancy I would say. Could probably do most of it in the 1.6 VFB from now on, but I'm still leaning on PS to experiment a little on the end result.

Only light source is from the HDRI.

ugh! Thought I was the only one who would notice that, but you are totally right. Will be fixed on the next set of images ;)

Thanks though guys! Much appreciated.

Hi guys

A few shots from this 1700th apartment in Copenhagen. Went a bit old school with the kitchen fronts.

Hope you like it! Next up: The Dining Room :)

The quality is good, but I agree with the others. That half eaten cake is so weird. It draws the focus away from the main object. I'd definitely remove it. I wouldn't replace it with anything either. Let the speaker or what ever that thing is, stand out ;)

[Max] I need help! / Can't open Asset Tracking
« on: 2016-10-29, 17:12:34 »
*Deleted the ENU folder, and everything works great again. Installing 1.5.1 had no effect. Guess I was just unlucky with some corrupted files...*

Hi

This might just be a total coincidence, but I just noticed that I can no longer open up max's "Asset tracking". Haven't really opened it in a while, but it worked the last time and only thing changed is my corona installation. Nothing happens if I access "asset tracking" via the menu nor the shit+t shortcut.

I've tried to uninstall 1.5.1 = nothing
Reinstall 1.4 = nothing
Repaired 3ds max 2016 = nothing

Hope someone got an idea before I have to reinstall everything.

I just had a meeting with the client today and you are actually spot on!

It's NASA satellite imagery that's been through some design studio in Amsterdam.

He was happy with the result, so all is good at this stage. Will definitely try your suggestions if he wants it more detailed.

Thanks for chiming in :)

Hi guys

The client has his eyes set on some pretty sweet wallpapers for his project. They are to be wrapped around 3 big supporting columns.

I've spent some time playing with bercon noise and I'm getting closer to the first material sample he gave me (attachment 01). He is considering the more "advanced" type (the image with the dinner table). I wonder if my (rather slow) approach with bercon maps is the best one. Any thoughts on how you guys would do it?

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Daily Builds 1.5

Hi. Would download today's build, but there's no v2014 and v2016 - only v2015 and v2017. Is this a mistake, or by purpose?

What HE said ;)

oh, and also +1 for this guy:

Pick (“+”) buttons now correctly handle picking groups
- well that one is a good news - tested it yesterday, works flawlessly, now only saveable\loadable lightmix+post presets with some sort of a list where one can store those presets and load them from and maybe even assign\pin those presets to some specific LightMix render elements (or a beauty elements perhaps) which would be invaluable for batch renderings\savings, well something like this or, maybe, some other, more elegant solution for the same task is needed for lightmix to be a truly production friendly tool )

Hi Jens,

Very nice images compositionwise and colorgrading. DoF is a bit too strong for my taste in the first image and perhaps you should rotate one or more chairs a bit more to give it some more vibrance.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback.

Nice.  If me, i would delete 1 set of tables per side to give clearance behind chairs (60cm+) in pulled out position (to avoid claustrophobia maybe).

Did you help the architect communicate the plan?  What did the client say?

Thanks

Yeah me too, but the space had to have seating for 50ish people. These are concept images, so tables/chairs might be swapped to some smaller models.

The architect had a plan + section drawing and lots of ideas of course. I was part of the design process and provided images/concepts on our ideas that he could then show to the client. Client was happy.

1) Yeah it's the free grow ivy plugin for 3ds max: http://www.guruware.at/main/ivy/ had to experiment a lot with the settings for them to fit and used a custom leaf instead of the standard one.

2) I think models are from an evermotion pack, can't really remember. The flame is modeled as - surprise - a flame and has a normal corona mat with light emitter enabled. Just trial and error till it looked right :)

Hi guys

This is my latest client work. The space had no windows so the architect wanted to explore options with a skylight as the main element of lighting. It ended up 16m long and 1.4m wide.

It was made in 1.4, would have loved to try out the new lightmix in 1.5, but didn't dare to install the daily in the middle of the project ;) Think I'll try now it's over.

aaaand the wire :)

oh man, I love the first one!

Leaves on trees could use some more detail when up this close.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm glad to hear that max should run okay on the integrated GPU type.

Had my eyes on the Surface Pro 4 too, but yeah its priced as the Dell XPS. The Surface Pro 5 should come early 2017 according to various sites, so would feel a bit silly buying it so late in the cycle.

Think I'll go with the Lenovo Yoga 710 then.

PS. Thanks for that epicpen link burnin!

Hi guys

I need a laptop that I can bring to client meetings, use on travels and workshops (light 3ds max and photoshop work) and also just on the sofa at home. Not at all a portable workstation.
So it needs to be portable and light (thinking 14" and under 1.7kg). Have a good screen 1920p will be fine, but needs good color accuracy). Good battery life. No fancy gaming laptop. Simple design. 8gb ram minimum.

I'm not sure what is needed cpu/gpu wise for my needs. Will an i5/i7 with the onboard HD520 gpu suffice for light 3ds max and photoshop work or is it totally hopeless? I'm thinking that the discrete GPUs loose out on battery performance/portability.

The Dell XPS is too expensive. I'm currently looking at the Lenovo Yoga 700/710.

What are you guys using / any advice?

Thanks.

Thanks guys!

nice job. I'm liking the vegetation. Care to share any info on the material/post work for colour. I find getting the right shade of green tricky business.

Grass is the ForestPack pro preset and I messed around with the settings + added/removed items to it to get it as I liked it. But yeah, getting the vegetation just right out of the render is something that takes way too long imo. I've given up on finding a method that will get it just right every time. Think Juraj was getting close though. I put my trust in photoshop to get the result I'm after. Much more flexible as it changes from scene to scene. So its just the standard Corona material from ForestPack.

It's typically gathering references I like. Using hue/sat and selective color adjustment layers combined with masking (using a foliage brush) to get a result I find fitting.
