Title: C4D 2023
Post by: frv on 2022-09-08, 11:08:13
Does the latest build v9 work with the latest release of C4D 2023 ?

Hmm.. I think 2023 is just R26 renamed.

Maybe 2023 is actually different:

A problem I noticed with R26 and CR is that not all materials convert well into the asset browser. Since I hhave a very fast ssd and Maxon changed the asset browser to be able to show assets without having to download them all I use the asset brower all the time. A huge time saver. Although Chaos Cosmos is great too it would be better if you could choose to have all Chaos assets available in the C4D asset browser.  Especially the feature to have personalised versions of assets is fantastic in the C4D asset browser.

I am beginning to notice that asset management is very important in Archviz projects. The amount of assets is just unbelievable and they come from dozens of resources. One of the main reasons for me to work with CR is that resources and assets are often provided in CR render format.

I'm in the same situation as you, I tried to copy the Corona folder to the C4d 2023 plugin folder but it doesn't work.
Out of curiosity I tried to open a scene made with R26 and the materials were all loaded instantly but I still can't say if it was fixed as Corona is not installed.

I cant tell when it started (I suspect R19), but from my observations, every 2nd release breaks plugin compatibility. 2023 (ex R 27) is no exception.

Well, I am sure at Chaos they will let us know soon.
But I think the current releases of C4D are new feature and feature updates much more than major changes in the modeling engine. So plugins require less work to be made compatible I hope.

One question, Have you access C4D beta to get feature before release and get ready on time ????

Me personally, no. I went to their site and downloaded it. I cannot speak for the developers though ;)

I could try and move the CR v9 plugin to the 2023 plugin folder. Would that work ?

Unless we have released support for it, that won't work. ;)

All plugins need recompiling for 2023.

"Hmm.. I think 2023 is just R26 renamed."

nope, sadly the update again breaks ALL plugins (all c++), i hoped r25 was the last for some time to change the plugin code base.
depending on plugin this can be rather some work again for plugin developers

i hope future updates will keep plugins working intact, as this was for many many years in the past.

I do think a lot in C4D's updates has made sense recently and needed to be. Updating plugins and the work involved is better than an outdated C4D.
If you look at Blender and Unreal Engine things are changing fast. At this moment C4D still is for me the only option in combination with Vectorworks to have such fantastic assets for vegetation and all you need for Archviz. There is just nothing out there that gives me the same workflow and even on the latest m1 and m2 Mac's as well. Vectorworks is decades behind current developments regretfully. Whish they moved forward like Maxon does at whatever the cost of compatibility. If an application becomes obsolete over time all the training and experience becomes as well. It will happen to C4D and CR one day but I really hope not any time soon.
