Long version with screenshots also posted here:

https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=17608.0

There are 3 problems with CoronaRoundEdge map:

1) - Intersecting objects no longer blend together. This used to work in older versions. (I have not used corona for some time)
2) - No options (radio buttons) anymore for excluding/including geometry for blending (Originally these were available)
3) - Result has dark shading problems. MODO round edge render works better. (This is also not geometry based so Corona should be able to achieve the same result).

Modo implementation of rounded corner shader demonstrated in these videos:

In what version? In 1.7 It was still not working properly (shading artifacts and dark edges). It would be great if it works at least as well as the Modo round edge shader.

Considering intersections and include/exclude are working now.
The darker edges are still there, but we have this logged as something requested to be fixed.
Currently one option is to disable the rounded edges effect completely for the backfacing edges, but it is just a workaround, so I don't think anyone would be happy with it.

@OccultMonk: do you have any problems even with the precise mode? (switch inside the rounded edges map)

I think what he means is mostly the "dark edges" problem, which was also submitted to our helpdesk, and is also logged in our internal tracker as "8202 - Dark shading on rounded edges".

Yes, the dark edges are the main problem. They are first dark and then light (as in my screenshots I submitted). I understand that it is hard to eliminate totally, but other renderers have less noticeable dark/light edges on corners facing away from the camera/view.

Any word on this being fixed? Just installed 1.7 with latest hotfix and the shader is completely broken. Dark lines on edges plus vertex normal shading has harsh breaks as if separated by smoothing groups.

Can you send us some simple example images and scenes? (it can be here)
That would greatly help us understand what exactly we should look into.
Thanks!

I e-mailed those images some time ago. I would like about the same result as in Modo. Especially larger rounded edges have too many shading problems.

I also posted the problem here (see my last post):

Is there any improvement made to the rounded corner shader, so it is more usable like Tor Frick Modo techniques?  I have not tested it in Corona 2.0/3.0... I know it's possible because many other renderers do a better job than Corona with rounded corners (especially those on the far side of the object). Has this been improved?

Modo and Blender have better results than Corona, so it must be possible I think:
