I've just discovered there is a Wire Shader in Corona, but I've no idea what it's for. There are a few posts in this forum but would appreciate some tips on it if anyone can advise on what it is designed to do, or how one might use it.

I saw that help page after I posted. But I still don’t really know what it’s for. Why might someone use it over say, rendering the viewport?

You can mix the wire effect in any render with other "realistic" materials and you can use the shader in any channel, be it diffuse, opacity or even displacement. You'll like it once you explore it :)
