Should be possible, it works in Vray 3 VFB CC panel (both LUT & ICC ).
( I even briefly played with it but then fundamentally ceased to. The only benefit to my work was if I were to do sole post-production in VFB and print it directly. Which I don't.
OpenEXR which I use doesn't store color profiles at least I believe it doesn't so you still interpret it in your post application, where I simply continue is same fashion)
with something else than sRGB in for 90% of users probably)
Why do you think that would be the case ? Wide gamut monitors are still expensive for majority of users (Average price is 700~ euros up) so most people can't use AdobeRGB, and thus I think it's oppositely. 90perc. of people use sRGB.
Even I use sRGB despite having wide-gamut displays for years (starting with old Dell 2410, now on 3014). The hardware(display) emulation provides safer workflow given most of my images end up on internet only. I only turn to full ARGB workflow if I need to do direct printing by myself. Using pure sRGB makes exchanging files with clients bit less painful process when they watch it on calculators instead.
Or are you talking about custom calibrated profiles and studio workflows mixing different mediums (digital&film,etc..) in closed environment ? Surely that isn't 90 perc. of users :- )
Since 3dsMax is not color managed app, it displays your render in your monitor profile, which I think is fine for most.
Still good request :- )
